Lead & Asbestos

Test before we tear out.

Many homes in Snohomish and King County were built before lead paint and asbestos were phased out. Water damage often means cutting drywall, pulling flooring, or removing popcorn ceilings — and disturbing those materials can release dust that is harmful to breathe.

Asbestos

Asbestos can be found in drywall joint compound, textured ceilings, vinyl flooring and its adhesive, pipe wrap, and some insulation. Homes built before 1982 are most likely to contain asbestos-containing materials. In the Puget Sound region, a survey is generally required before renovation or demolition work. We work with a trusted local lab for all testing.

Lead

Homes built before 1978 may have lead-based paint on walls, trim, windows, and doors. Federal rules require lead-safe work practices when that paint is disturbed.

Insurance coverage

Testing is usually part of a covered water loss when demolition is required. We will include it in your estimate and explain it to your adjuster.
